INTRO:
When I reviewed the SOUNDPEATS H3, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that the earphones were a hybrid, meaning they were composed of Dynamic Drivers (DD) and Balanced Armatures (BAs). Now, the company brings a new type of speaker to the AIR5 PRO+: the xMEMS micro driver. This type of driver has started appearing in wired earphones, but until now, I had never heard of it being used in wireless earphones (TWS). Well, here it is.

UNBOXING:
PHYSICAL ASPECTS:
Construction:
- Shell – body – made of plastic.
- Good build quality (earphones and case).
- Earphones in “piano black” appear to be of lower quality (subjective).
- More discreet than the H3 (I prefer minimalism).
- Earphones with oval nozzle (I think a round nozzle is better).
- IPX5: Resistant to low-pressure water jets.
- Good battery life.
- Sources used: Samsung A36, Samsung S22 Ultra.
Charging case:
- LED charging indicator on the front of the case.
- Compact and lightweight charging case.
- The earphones won’t fall out of the case with the lid open (strong magnetism).
- The case lid makes a noise when closing (that “clack” sound of the plastic).
Eartips:
- Only 1 type of eartips available.
- 3 pairs included: S/M/L.
- I liked the eartips: soft and comfortable.
- They have a size indication (on the inside of the part).
- The only problem is that they follow the shape of the nozzle (oval).
- Standard size, if you wear M, then it’s M.
- I don’t see the need to upgrade the eartips (subjective).
- I did the sound review with size M.
Connectivity:
- Pairing when opening the case lid.
- Great range (reaches the indicated 10m).
- Great signal stability.
- No latency. Perfect synch between image and sound.
- Responsive gestural touches.
- The touch area is easy to give commands.
- Commands are confirmed by a female voice assistant.
- Multipoint connection works perfectly (enable in the App).
- It is not possible to enable multipoint connection and LDAC at the same time.
- Game Mode is also not available when LDAC is enabled.
- Only one side can be used at a time (mono).
- It doesn’t have Auto-Pause & Resume.
APP:
- PeatsAudio APP: Download from the Google Play Store.
- The app layout is simple, but everything is easy to understand.
- It doesn’t show the battery life indicator (in %) (it could).
- The preset is saved even if paired with another smartphone.
- 10-band parametric equalizer available.
- The adaptive EQ is confusing to use. I couldn’t explore this function.

ANC and Transparent mode:
- ANC: The noise cancellation is good; you can get some sound reduction.
- Transparent mode: Works well, it manages to pick up surrounding sounds.
- It’s possible to switch between modes directly from the TWS.
- Switching between modes doesn’t interrupt music playback.
- The music lowers and the voice assistant informs you which mode is in.
- The combination of passive and active noise cancellation is very interesting.
Microphone:
- In a quiet environment, the mic quality was excellent. One of the best I’ve tested.
- With a fan on, the quality drops, but it’s still possible to hear the voice with great clarity.
- I liked it a lot. The quality is medium to high. A very positive point.
Fit and comfort:
- Good fit. Stable in my ears.
- Recommended for casual or office use.
- Comfortable, good ergonomics.
- Good for long listening sessions.
- Medium insertion.
- Good isolation.
- I consider it to be quite lightweight.
- Not so good for intense physical exercise (subjective).
Earphone kit (accessories):
- SOUNDPEATS Air5 Pro+ Wireless Earbuds
- Charging Case
- Ear Tips (S/M/L) *3 Pairs
- Type-C Charging Cable
- User Manual
- SOUNDPEATS Stickers *1

SOUND ASPECTS:
Sound:
- I did the review using the “Electronic” preset.
- For me, it was the preset that generated the best performance (subjective).
- It is very similar to the factory preset (default).
- V-Shape: Emphasized bass, recessed mids, and slightly emphasized treble.
- Aimed at a “commercial” sound, to appeal to a wider audience.
- It combines well with popular genres: EDM, Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock, Reggae, etc.
- In my opinion, the presets don’t produce better results (subjective).
- Sound very similar to the H3, but with fewer technicalities.
Bass:
– Quantitative:
- Moderate to high frequencies.
- It may be suitable for bass enthusiasts.
- Focus on sub-bass.
- Sub-bass slightly more prominent than mid-bass.
- Bass is the most prominent frequency in these earphones.
– Qualitative:
- These are strong, authoritative, impactful, weighty, and massive.
- Excellent definition and extension.
- Great physicality without sounding boomy.
- Excellent texture and warmth.
- They don’t invade the midrange.
- They aren’t bloated or muddy.
- Good for musical genres that prioritize bass.
- The bass drum and double bass have strength and prominence.
Mids:
– Quantitative and qualitative:
- The mids are recessed.
- They are soft, warm, and velvety mids.
- They don’t generate fatigue or aggressiveness.
- The definition and transparency are good.
- The detail and airiness are good/OK.
- Not the best for those seeking technical/forward mids.
- Good for those who want to avoid shouty upper-mids.
- Guitar riffs become more “warm” and textured (visceral).
- The tone leans more towards musical than analytical.
Voices:
- Best for deep/male voices.
- Male voices gain more imposing presence and texture.
- Growling and raspy sounds are intensified with these earphones.
- I didn’t find them to be the best for high-pitched voices (female voice library).
Treble:
– Quantitative:
- From moderate to moderately high.
- They stand out in the presentation as the 2nd highest frequency.
- Not for trebleheads.
- The factory preset (default) has even less treble.
– Qualitative:
- Good energy, vitality, speed, and good extension.
- Slightly accentuated brightness.
- The detail is good/OK. The H3 was a little better.
- They are not shrill, not sharp, not harsh.
- I didn’t heard sibilance, peaks, or coloration.
- It loses a little resolution in songs with a lot of activity in the treble.
- Example: Extreme Metal – songs with a lot of speed on the hi-hats.
Soundstage:
- I found the soundstage to be very good.
- It’s good in all 3 dimensions: height, width, and depth.
- V-shaped headphones achieve better spatiality (this isn’t a rule).
- A very positive point of the headphones.
Imaging:
- I found the instrumental separation to be average.
- It’s standard for TWS earbuds. The H3 was a little better.
- Wired earphones have a greater advantage in separation.
Driver flex test:
- The Air5 Pro+ didn’t feature driver flex sound.
Amplification (or volume in TWS):
- Just to comment about the volume<
- I consider it to be a very loud TWS.
- The last 3 volume levels were quite loud (for my ears).
- Certainly one of the loudest TWS I’ve ever tested.
PROS AND CONS:
– Pleasant unboxing
– Good build quality
– V-shape sound
– Good soundstage
– Great bass
– Bluetooth 5.4
– LDAC codec
– ANC and transparent mode
– App: customization and parametric EQ
– Multipoint connection
– Excellent mic quality
– IPX5 certification
– Responsive gesture controls
– Good battery life
– Quite loud (volume)
– Great fit and comfort
– Good for long listening sessions
– Compact and lightweight case
– Good eartips
– Oval nozzle
– Lid makes a “clack” noise when closing
– No Auto-Pause & Resume
– Adaptive EQ is confusing (subjective)
– EQ presets don’t contribute much
– Could have a battery percentage in the app
– Detail isn’t its strong point
